Background
Kulti is a town in the western part of West Bengal that historically formed part of the Asansol industrial cluster, known for its iron and steel works and coal mining. The college was set up to provide accessible higher education to students from this region, many of whom come from families associated with the area's industrial workforce. Until the formation of Kazi Nazrul University in 2012, colleges in this part of the erstwhile Bardhaman district were affiliated to the University of Burdwan.
Academics
The college offers three-year undergraduate (honours and general) programmes following the curriculum framework of its affiliating university. Subjects typically include Bengali, English, History, Political Science, Philosophy, Sanskrit, Geography, Economics and Commerce, alongside science disciplines where laboratory facilities permit. Examinations and degrees are awarded by the affiliating university.
Campus and facilities
The campus includes classrooms, a library, departmental rooms and laboratories for science subjects. Students' welfare is supported through a students' union, and the college maintains units for activities such as the National Service Scheme (NSS) and cultural programmes.
Significance
As one of the higher education institutions serving the Kulti–Asansol belt, the college plays a role in widening access to undergraduate study in a region historically dominated by industry rather than academic institutions. It contributes to local human capital by enabling first-generation college students from mining and steel-town backgrounds to pursue degrees.
