Location and setting
Annanur lies along the suburban corridor that runs north-west from Chennai towards Arakkonam. The station is situated between Ambattur and Avadi, two of the larger residential and industrial neighbourhoods in the area. The surrounding region has seen extensive residential growth, and the station serves daily commuters travelling into central Chennai for work and education.
Services
The station is primarily served by Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) suburban trains operating between Chennai Central, Avadi, Tiruvallur and Arakkonam. As a suburban halt, it does not see long-distance express train stoppages and functions as a basic commuter station with platforms and ticketing facilities.
Significance
Annanur railway station plays a role in supporting the daily commute of residents in the Ambattur–Avadi corridor, one of the densely populated belts of the Chennai metropolitan area.
