Career
Early work (2011–2015)
Vijay made his screen debut with a small role in the Telugu film Nuvvila (2011). He followed this with theatre and minor on-screen appearances before landing his first lead role in Yevade Subramanyam (2015), directed by Nag Ashwin, in which he played a supporting part opposite Nani.
Breakthrough (2016–2017)
His first leading role came with Tharun Bhascker's Pelli Choopulu (2016), a low-budget romantic comedy that became a critical and commercial success and won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu.
In 2017 he starred in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Arjun Reddy, playing a self-destructive surgeon. The film became a major hit and a cultural phenomenon in Telugu cinema, establishing Vijay as a youth icon. It was later remade in Hindi as Kabir Singh (2019) and in Tamil as Adithya Varma (2019).
Stardom (2018–2021)
Vijay consolidated his stardom with the romantic comedy Geetha Govindam (2018), directed by Parasuram and co-starring Rashmika Mandanna, which became one of the highest-grossing Telugu films of its year. The same year he appeared in Taxiwaala and NOTA, the latter being a bilingual Tamil–Telugu political drama.
He followed these with Dear Comrade (2019) and World Famous Lover (2020). In 2020 he launched his production company, King of the Hill Entertainment, with the film Meeku Maathrame Cheptha, and also founded the casual-wear brand Rowdy.

His subsequent releases include Kushi (2023), directed by Shiva Nirvana and co-starring Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and The Family Star (2024), directed by Parasuram.
