Background
The University of Jammu was established following the bifurcation of the erstwhile University of Jammu and Kashmir, which had served both regions of the state from its main campus in Srinagar. With the reorganisation, two separate universities were created — the University of Kashmir at Srinagar and the University of Jammu at Jammu — to cater to the educational requirements of the two divisions.
The main campus of the University of Jammu is situated on the banks of the Tawi river in Jammu city. The university also operates off-campus centres and constituent campuses in different parts of the Jammu region, extending higher education access to areas including Kathua, Udhampur, Reasi, Doda, Ramnagar, Bhaderwah, and Poonch.
