Sriti Jha is an Indian television actress known primarily for her work in Hindi-language soap operas. She rose to widespread recognition through her portrayal of Pragya Arora in the Zee TV serial Kumkum Bhagya, a long-running drama produced by Balaji Telefilms. She is also a winner of the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (Season 10).

Background

Sriti Jha was born on 26 February 1986 in Begusarai, Bihar, into a Maithili-speaking family. She spent parts of her childhood in Bhagalpur and later moved to Delhi, where she completed her schooling at Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram. She enrolled at Miranda House, University of Delhi, but discontinued formal college studies to pursue a career in acting after auditioning successfully for television roles in Mumbai.

Career

Early television work

Jha began her television career in 2007 with the Star One series Dhoom Machaao Dhoom. She subsequently appeared in Jiya Jale on Star Plus and played a supporting role in Kuchh Is Tara. In 2009, she featured in Balaji Telefilms' Kasturi, followed by Rishton Se Badi Pratha on NDTV Imagine.

Breakthrough roles

Her first lead role came in 2010 with Jyoti on NDTV Imagine. She gained wider recognition in 2011 by playing Siya in Dil Se Di Dua... Saubhagyavati Bhava? on Life OK, opposite Karanvir Bohra. The serial, dealing with themes of domestic abuse, established her as a notable face on Indian television.

Kumkum Bhagya

In 2014, Jha was cast as Pragya Arora in Kumkum Bhagya, produced by Balaji Telefilms for Zee TV. The serial, loosely inspired by Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility, paired her with Shabir Ahluwalia. The show became one of the highest-rated Hindi general entertainment programmes during its run, and Jha continued in the lead role for several years, earning her substantial popularity across South Asia and among the Indian diaspora.

Reality television and other work

Jha participated in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 10, the Colors TV celebrity dance competition, in 2022, and emerged as the winner of the season. She has also hosted segments and appeared in music videos, including collaborations with singers in the Hindi independent music space.
