Siddharth Roy Kapur is an Indian film producer and media executive. He is the founder and managing director of Roy Kapur Films, a production company based in Mumbai. He previously served as the Managing Director of The Walt Disney Company India and President of Studios at UTV Motion Pictures, where he oversaw a slate of commercially and critically successful Hindi films. He has served as the President of the Producers Guild of India.

Roy Kapur was raised in Mumbai. He completed his postgraduate studies in management from the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Mumbai. Career

Early career in television and media

Roy Kapur began his career in advertising and media marketing, with stints at organisations including STAR India, where he worked in the marketing and content functions of satellite television. His exposure to broadcast distribution and brand-building during this period shaped his later approach to film marketing.

UTV Motion Pictures

He joined UTV Motion Pictures, the film studio founded by Ronnie Screwvala, and rose to head the studio business. Under his leadership, UTV produced a wide range of Hindi films across commercial and independent categories, including Rang De Basanti, Jodhaa Akbar, A Wednesday!, Dev.D, Udaan, Peepli Live, No One Killed Jessica, Delhi Belly, Rockstar, Paan Singh Tomar, Barfi! and Kai Po Che!. UTV was acquired by The Walt Disney Company, and the studio was integrated into Disney's India operations.

The Walt Disney Company India

Following the integration of UTV into Disney, Roy Kapur was appointed Managing Director of The Walt Disney Company India. In this role he oversaw the studio, television and consumer products businesses of Disney in India, and supervised the production and distribution of Hindi films such as Chennai Express, PK, Dangal and several others, alongside Disney's animated and live-action international slate in the Indian market.

Roy Kapur Films

In 2017, Roy Kapur left Disney and launched Roy Kapur Films as an independent production house focused on theatrical features, digital series and long-form content. The company has produced and developed projects for both theatrical release and streaming platforms, including The Sky Is Pink directed by Shonali Bose, web series for streaming services, and other features in collaboration with Indian and international partners.

Industry roles

Roy Kapur has been associated with the Producers Guild of India, the apex body of film and television producers in India, and has served as its President. In this capacity he has represented the Indian production sector in policy discussions concerning content regulation, taxation, anti-piracy measures, exhibition and the relationship between theatrical and streaming distribution.

Roy Kapur is regarded as one of the principal corporate executives associated with the consolidation of Hindi film production into studio-led models during the 2000s and 2010s. His tenure at UTV and Disney coincided with a period in which mainstream Hindi cinema increasingly incorporated mid-budget, content-driven films alongside large star vehicles, and several films produced under his oversight received National Film Awards and Filmfare Awards. As an independent producer, he has been active in the transition of Indian content to over-the-top (OTT) platforms.

Personal life

Siddharth Roy Kapur married actress Vidya Balan in December 2012. The couple resides in Mumbai. His younger brothers, Aditya Roy Kapur and Kunaal Roy Kapur, are actors in Hindi cinema.
