Ravi Mohan

Ravi Mohan is a common Indian name borne by several public figures, most notably an Indian actor working primarily in Tamil cinema, who is also widely known by the screen name Jayam Ravi. He is the younger brother of director Mohan Raja and entered the Tamil film industry in the early 2000s, going on to build a career across action, romance and historical drama films.

He continued with films including Bogan (2017), Tik Tik Tik (2018, billed as India's first space film), Comali (2019) and Bhoomi (2021). His most prominent role came with Mani Ratnam's two-part historical epic Ponniyin Selvan: I (2022) and Ponniyin Selvan: II (2023), based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's novel, in which he portrayed the Chola prince Arulmozhivarman, the future emperor Rajaraja I. The films received wide critical acclaim and significant commercial success.

Name change

In 2024, the actor publicly announced that he would drop the screen name Jayam Ravi and use his birth name, Ravi Mohan, for future films. The decision was reported in connection with personal and professional developments and marked a significant rebranding more than two decades into his career.

Across more than two decades, Ravi Mohan has been part of a sustained run of commercially successful Tamil films, working with directors such as Mani Ratnam, M. Raja, Mohan Raja, Hari and A. L.
