Background
Rajinder Pal emerged through North Indian domestic cricket during the late 1950s and 1960s, a period in which the Ranji Trophy was the principal pathway to national selection. He bowled at a brisk medium-fast pace and was regarded as a steady new-ball bowler in the domestic circuit.
Career
Pal made his first-class debut in the late 1950s and went on to play for Southern Punjab before becoming a regular member of the Delhi side in the Ranji Trophy. He was part of Delhi's bowling attack across multiple seasons, contributing as an opening bowler in domestic competition.
His sole Test appearance for India came in 1964 during the home series against England. Although he did not feature in further Tests, he continued to play first-class cricket at the domestic level for several years thereafter.
Significance
Rajinder Pal is remembered as one of the many capable domestic seam bowlers of his generation who earned a single Test cap in an era when fast bowling opportunities for Indian players were limited, with selectors frequently rotating new-ball options. His career is often cited in discussions of Delhi's Ranji Trophy history during the 1960s.
