Background
The college is one of three engineering colleges run by the R. M. D. group, the others being R. M. K. Engineering College and R. M. K. College of Engineering and Technology. The institutions were founded under the patronage of the trust associated with the family of R. S. Munirathinam, an industrialist and educationist from Tamil Nadu. The Kavaraipettai campus, situated along the Chennai–Kolkata national highway corridor north of Chennai, hosts all three sister colleges within proximity.
Academics
RMDEC offers Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) and Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) programmes across several disciplines, with admissions through the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) counselling process based on Class 12 marks. Postgraduate programmes include Master of Engineering (M.E.) in select specialisations and Master of Business Administration (MBA).
