Background
Born in Jammu, Manhas moved to Delhi for his cricketing development and rose through age-group cricket in the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) system. He represented India at the Under-19 level before establishing himself as a regular in the Delhi Ranji Trophy side around the turn of the millennium.
Domestic career
Manhas made his first-class debut for Delhi in the 1997–98 season. Over the following years he became the backbone of Delhi's middle order, often anchoring innings on difficult tracks at the Feroz Shah Kotla. He accumulated a large number of first-class runs across formats and was particularly noted for converting starts into substantial centuries.
He captained Delhi for several seasons and led the side to the Ranji Trophy title in 2007–08, defeating Uttar Pradesh in the final. Under his leadership, Delhi were also runners-up in subsequent seasons, and he became one of the highest run-scorers in the history of Delhi cricket. After parting ways with Delhi, Manhas joined Jammu and Kashmir, where he served as a senior batsman and mentor figure for the team in the latter part of his playing career.
Indian Premier League
In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Manhas was associated with multiple franchises. He was part of the Delhi Daredevils squad in the inaugural seasons of the league from 2008. He subsequently played for Chennai Super Kings, was acquired by Pune Warriors India, and later turned out for Kings XI Punjab. While he was not a regular fixture in playing XIs, he was valued as an experienced domestic professional within these squads.
Style of play
Manhas was regarded as a technically sound batsman who relied on patience, placement, and the ability to play long innings. He was equally comfortable in the longer format and in limited-overs cricket, and was known to occasionally roll over his arm with off-spin. As a captain, he was praised for his calm temperament and tactical understanding of the longer format.

He is one of the highest run-getters in Delhi's Ranji Trophy history and one of the few captains to have led the state to the national domestic title. His career is often cited in discussions about consistent first-class performers who remained on the fringes of international selection during a period of intense competition for middle-order spots in the Indian team.
