Overview
M.B.M. University is a state public university located in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India. It was established by an Act of the Rajasthan State Legislature, which converted the long-standing M.B.M. Engineering College into a full-fledged university focused on engineering, technology and allied disciplines. The institution traces its academic lineage to the engineering college that was founded in Jodhpur in the mid-twentieth century and which functioned for several decades as a constituent college of Jai Narain Vyas University before being granted independent university status.

Background
The university grew out of M.B.M. Engineering College, one of the earliest engineering institutions in Rajasthan. The college was named after Maharaja Maan Singh's family acronym associated with the erstwhile Jodhpur State, and for many years it served as the principal engineering wing of Jai Narain Vyas University in Jodhpur. Over time the college developed undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across major branches of engineering, including civil, mechanical, electrical, electronics and communication, computer science, structural, and production and industrial engineering, along with departments in architecture, mining, and basic sciences.
Establishment as a university
Recognising the growth of the college and the demand for an autonomous technical university in western Rajasthan, the State Government of Rajasthan upgraded M.B.M. Engineering College into a unitary state university through dedicated legislation. After the Act came into force, the institution was reconstituted as M.B.M. University, with its existing departments forming the academic nucleus of the new university. The campus, faculty and infrastructure of the former college were transferred to the new entity.
Academics
The university offers Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.), Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.), Master of Engineering (M.E.), Master of Technology (M.Tech.), Master of Computer Applications (MCA) and doctoral (Ph.D.) programmes. Departments cover the major engineering disciplines along with humanities and applied sciences that support the technical curriculum. Admission to undergraduate engineering programmes is generally made through state-level entrance counselling for technical institutions in Rajasthan.
Campus
The university is situated on the campus of the former M.B.M. Engineering College in Jodhpur, which historically formed part of the Jai Narain Vyas University precinct in the city. The campus houses departmental buildings, laboratories, workshops, a central library, hostels and faculty residences.
Significance
M.B.M. University is significant as one of the older centres of engineering education in Rajasthan and as a state public university dedicated primarily to technical education in the Marwar region. Its conversion from a constituent engineering college into a stand-alone university reflects the broader trend in India of upgrading established technical colleges into autonomous universities to expand research capacity, programme flexibility and industry engagement.
