Overview
Koi... Mil Gaya (English: I Have Found Someone) is a 2003 Indian Hindi-language science fiction film written, produced and directed by Rakesh Roshan under the Filmkraft Productions banner. The film stars Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta and Rekha in lead roles, with Rajat Bedi, Prem Chopra and Johnny Lever in supporting parts. It is widely regarded as one of the earliest mainstream Bollywood films to use the science fiction genre as its central narrative device, drawing inspiration from Hollywood films such as E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) and Charly (1968).
The film follows Rohit Mehra, a young man with a developmental disability, who befriends an alien stranded on Earth. The alien, later named Jadoo, helps Rohit gain normal cognitive and physical abilities. Koi... Mil Gaya launched the Krrish franchise, India's first major superhero film series, with sequels Krrish (2006) and Krrish 3 (2013).

Plot
Sanjay Mehra, a scientist working on extraterrestrial communication, succeeds in contacting alien life through a computer programme based on the sacred sound "Om". Soon after, he is killed in a car accident, and his pregnant wife Sonia survives but their child, Rohit, is born with a developmental disability. Years later, Rohit lives in Kasauli with his mother and behaves like a young child despite his adult age. He befriends Nisha, a newcomer to the town.
Rohit accidentally activates his late father's computer, which signals an alien spaceship to Earth. One small alien is left behind, whom Rohit and his friends name "Jadoo". Jadoo possesses healing and supernatural powers, and gradually transfers some of these abilities to Rohit, transforming him into a healthy, intelligent and athletic young man. The film follows Rohit's growth, his romance with Nisha, his confrontation with the local bully Raj, and the eventual return of Jadoo to his home planet.

Production
The film was developed by Rakesh Roshan as a vehicle for his son Hrithik Roshan, following a series of underperforming films after Hrithik's debut Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai (2000). The screenplay required Hrithik to portray a man with intellectual disability for much of the first half, and a transformed, physically agile hero in the second half. Visual effects, considered ambitious for an Indian film of its era, were used for sequences involving Jadoo and the spaceship. The film was shot largely in Kasauli and other locations in Himachal Pradesh.
Music
The soundtrack was composed by Rajesh Roshan with lyrics by Ibrahim Ashk and Dev Kohli. Popular songs from the film include "Idhar Chala Main Udhar Chala", "Haila Haila", "It's Magic" and the title track "Koi Mil Gaya". The album was released by Tips Music and became one of the best-selling Hindi film soundtracks of 2003.
Release and reception
Koi... Mil Gaya was released theatrically on 8 August 2003. The film became one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of the year and was declared a major commercial success. It received largely positive reviews, with particular praise for Hrithik Roshan's performance, the music, and its family-oriented science fiction premise, which was novel for Hindi cinema at the time.
