Background

The Jaypee Group, founded by industrialist Jaiprakash Gaur, has supported the establishment of several educational institutions in northern India. Alongside Jaypee University, Anoopshahr, the group is associated with Jaypee Institute of Information Technology in Noida, Jaypee University of Information Technology in Waknaghat (Himachal Pradesh) and Jaypee University of Engineering and Technology in Guna (Madhya Pradesh).

Jaypee University at Anoopshahr was set up as a state private university under a legislative Act of the Uttar Pradesh state government, the standard route through which private universities are constituted in the state. The university is situated in Anoopshahr, a town on the right bank of the Ganges in Bulandshahr district, in the western part of Uttar Pradesh. The region lies within the National Capital Region's broader catchment, with road connectivity to Bulandshahr, Aligarh and Meerut.
