Danny Denzongpa

Danny Denzongpa (born Tsering Phuntsok Denzongpa; 25 February 1948) is an Indian actor, playback singer and film director of Sikkimese descent. He has also worked as a liquor baron. Active primarily in Hindi cinema, he has additionally appeared in Bengali, Nepali and Tamil films. Across a career spanning five decades, he has acted in over 190 films since 1971.

His notable positive roles include Chor Machaye Shor, Fakira, Kalicharan, Devata, Bulundi, Adhikar, Aag Hi Aag and China Gate.

International work

He has appeared in international productions, the most prominent being Seven Years in Tibet, in which he featured alongside Brad Pitt.

Direction

His directorial venture Phir Wahi Raat has been regarded among the leading horror suspense films of Hindi cinema.

Recognition

In 2003, Denzongpa was awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian honour, in recognition of his contributions to Indian cinema.
