Principal photography took place in locations across India, including Chennai and Goa, as well as international locations such as Machu Picchu in Peru. Visual effects were handled by international studios including Legacy Effects, the team behind animatronics in Hollywood productions, while Stan Winston Studio alumni contributed to the robot designs. Action choreography was led by Yuen Woo-ping. Costume design was done by Mary E. Vogt and Manish Malhotra.

The soundtrack and background score were composed by A. R. Rahman, with lyrics primarily by Vairamuthu. Songs such as "Kilimanjaro", filmed at Machu Picchu, and "Irumbile Oru Idhayam" became widely popular. The album was released by Think Music.

Release and reception

Enthiran was released worldwide on 1 October 2010 in Tamil, with simultaneously dubbed Telugu (Robo) and Hindi (Robot) versions. The film opened to strong commercial reception across India and overseas markets, and became one of the highest-grossing Indian films at the time. It received praise for its visual effects, scale, and Rajinikanth's performance, while reviewers also discussed its narrative pacing and dependence on spectacle.

Awards

The film received several honours, including National Film Awards in technical categories such as Best Special Effects and Best Production Design at the 58th National Film Awards. It also won multiple Filmfare Awards South and Vijay Awards.
