Overview
Daggubati Ramanaidu (6 June 1936 – 18 February 2015) was an Indian film producer who worked predominantly in Telugu cinema. Founder of the Hyderabad-based Suresh Productions, he is widely regarded as one of the most prolific producers in Indian cinema, having produced films across multiple Indian languages including Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Bengali, Odia, Punjabi, Bhojpuri, and Tulu. He received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2009 and the Padma Bhushan in 2012.

Background
Ramanaidu was born into a farming family in Karamchedu, a village in the Prakasam district of coastal Andhra. After his early years in the village, he moved into business activities including a rice mill and a brick kiln in Karamchedu before relocating to Madras (now Chennai) to enter film production. He drew upon rural sensibilities throughout his career, and several of his films featured family-oriented and small-town subjects.
Career
Entry into cinema
Ramanaidu co-produced his first Telugu film Anuragam in 1963. He established Suresh Productions in 1964, naming the banner after his elder son Suresh Babu. His first solo production under the banner was Ramudu Bheemudu (1964), starring N. T. Rama Rao.
Major productions
Over five decades, Suresh Productions made films across genres. Notable Telugu productions include Prem Nagar (1971), Premabhishekam (1981), Bobbili Raja (1990), Kshana Kshanam (1991), Sundarakanda (1992), Premikudu (1994), and Seetharamaiah Gari Manavaralu. Hindi remakes and originals produced under the banner include Prem Nagar (1974) and Tohfa (1984). The banner produced films featuring leading Telugu stars and helped launch the screen career of his second son Venkatesh Daggubati with Kaliyuga Pandavulu (1986).
Multilingual output
Ramanaidu was noted for producing films in a wide range of Indian languages, an effort that earned recognition in the Limca Book of Records as the most prolific producer. He was credited with producing more than 150 films across these languages.
Infrastructure
He established Ramanaidu Studios in Hyderabad, one of the largest film studio complexes in South India, and later expanded operations to Visakhapatnam with Ramanaidu Studios, Vizag. The studios provided shooting floors, post-production, and ancillary facilities used by productions across Telugu cinema and other industries.
Public life
Ramanaidu contested the 1999 general election on a Telugu Desam Party ticket and was elected to the 13th Lok Sabha from the Bapatla constituency in Andhra Pradesh, serving until 2004. He was associated with social and educational initiatives in coastal Andhra, including support for institutions in his native Karamchedu.

Family
Ramanaidu was married to Rajeswari. The Daggubati family is a prominent presence in Telugu cinema. His elder son Suresh Babu is a producer and head of Suresh Productions; his second son Venkatesh is a leading Telugu film actor; and his daughter Lakshmi is married into the Daggubati–Purandeswari family. His grandsons Rana Daggubati and Naga Chaitanya (through marriage connections in the extended family) are active in Telugu cinema.
Death and legacy
Ramanaidu died on 18 February 2015 in Hyderabad after illness. Tributes were paid by political leaders and the film fraternity. He is remembered for industrialising film production in Telugu cinema, mentoring multiple generations of filmmakers, and building enduring studio infrastructure. Suresh Productions continues under his sons and grandsons.
