Background and family

Venkatesh was born into the Daggubati family of Andhra Pradesh. His father, D. Ramanaidu, was one of the most prolific film producers in Indian cinema and the founder of Suresh Productions, headquartered in Hyderabad. Venkatesh's elder brother, Suresh Babu Daggubati, manages Suresh Productions and is a producer and distributor in his own right. His nephew Rana Daggubati is also an actor in Telugu and Hindi films.

Venkatesh completed his schooling and higher education in India and the United States before entering films, with formal qualifications in business administration.

Venkatesh made his acting debut with Kaliyuga Pandavulu (1986), produced under Suresh Productions and directed by A. Kodandarami Reddy. The film established him as a new lead actor in Telugu cinema. Venkatesh made his Hindi film debut with Anari (1993), directed by K. Muralimohana Rao, opposite Karisma Kapoor. While he has primarily remained focused on Telugu cinema, he has occasionally worked in other languages.

Venkatesh expanded into streaming content with the web series Rana Naidu on Netflix, in which he co-starred with his nephew Rana Daggubati. The series marked his entry into the long-form digital format. He has also continued to appear in theatrical releases.
