Chetan Sakariya is an Indian cricketer who plays as a left-arm medium-fast bowler. He represents Saurashtra in domestic cricket and has appeared at the Indian Premier League (IPL) level. Background

Sakariya hails from Gujarat and came up through the state's age-group cricket structure before establishing himself in the Saurashtra senior side. He developed as a new-ball bowler capable of swinging the ball into right-handers, a relatively scarce skill set in Indian domestic cricket due to the limited number of left-arm seamers.

Domestic career

Sakariya made his first-class debut for Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy and later featured in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He was a member of the Saurashtra side that won the Ranji Trophy in the 2019–20 season, defeating Bengal in the final, although his role within the squad varied across the campaign.

Indian Premier League

Sakariya was signed by the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2021 player auction. He made his IPL debut in the same season and impressed with his ability to bowl in the powerplay and at the death, taking wickets with the new ball and varying his pace effectively in the closing overs. He was retained ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction discussions but moved teams in subsequent seasons, including a stint with the Delhi Capitals.

India call-up

Following his IPL 2021 performances, Sakariya was named in the India limited-overs squad for the tour of Sri Lanka in July 2021, alongside several other uncapped players. The squad was led by Shikhar Dhawan, with the senior side simultaneously touring England.

Sakariya is regarded as part of a small group of left-arm pacers in the Indian domestic circuit, a profile that has historically been valued for the angle and variety it offers a bowling attack.
