The undertaking operates a network of urban bus routes that connect residential sectors, industrial areas, educational institutions, hospitals and the railway station with the city's commercial nodes. Services have included standard, low-floor and air-conditioned buses, and the fleet has been progressively modernised with environmentally cleaner vehicles, including electric buses introduced as part of the city's electric mobility initiatives.
Inter-state services
CTU provides inter-state coach services from Chandigarh to a range of cities in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. These include ordinary, semi-deluxe, deluxe, air-conditioned and Volvo-class services on selected routes.
Infrastructure
- ISBT Sector 17 – the older inter-state bus terminal located in the city's central business district.
- ISBT Sector 43 – a larger terminal that handles much of the long-distance traffic.
- Bus depots and workshops for maintenance of the CTU fleet.
Significance
As the principal public transport operator in Chandigarh, CTU plays a central role in the daily mobility of residents and commuters of the tricity region of Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula. Its operations support the city's transit needs alongside private auto-rickshaws, taxis and shared transport, and the introduction of electric buses has linked the undertaking to wider efforts to reduce vehicular emissions in the planned city designed by Le Corbusier.
