Production and broadcast
The show was conceived as a light-hearted family sitcom and was launched as part of &TV's initial programming line-up shortly after the channel's debut in March 2015. It is shot primarily in Mumbai on a recreated north Indian colony set. Episodes are aired on weekday evenings and are also made available for streaming on ZEE5, the digital platform of the Zee Entertainment Enterprises group, which owns &TV.
Cast changes
In 2016, original lead Shilpa Shinde exited the show following a dispute with the production house, and was replaced by Shubhangi Atre in the role of Anguri Bhabhi. Saumya Tandon, who played Anita Mishra from the show's inception, departed in 2020. Nehha Pendse was cast as her replacement but was later replaced by Vidisha Srivastav in 2021. Actor Deepesh Bhan, who played Malkhan, died in July 2022 while still part of the active cast.
Spin-offs
The popularity of the character Happu Singh led to a spin-off series, Happu Ki Ultan Paltan, which premiered on &TV in March 2019. The spin-off retains Yogesh Tripathi in the lead role and is also produced by Edit II Productions.
Reception and significance
Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai! has consistently ranked among the most-watched Hindi sitcoms in the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) ratings since its launch. The show is noted for its slapstick humour, exaggerated characters, and use of regional north Indian dialects, particularly Bhojpuri and Kanpuri Hindi inflections. It has received Indian Television Academy Awards and Zee Rishtey Awards across multiple categories, including Best Actor in a Comic Role for Aasif Sheikh.
Its long run, crossing 2,000 episodes, places it among the most enduring Hindi-language situation comedies, alongside titles such as Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah.
