Akshay Yadav is an Indian politician associated with the Samajwadi Party. He represented the Firozabad constituency of Uttar Pradesh in the 16th Lok Sabha after winning the 2014 general election. He belongs to the Yadav political family of Uttar Pradesh, which has played a prominent role in the state's politics for several decades.

Background

Akshay Yadav is a member of the Yadav family of Saifai in Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh, a family closely identified with the founding and leadership of the Samajwadi Party. He is the son of Ram Gopal Yadav, a senior Samajwadi Party leader and Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha, and a relative of party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

Political career

Akshay Yadav contested the 2014 Indian general election from the Firozabad Lok Sabha constituency on a Samajwadi Party ticket and was elected to the 16th Lok Sabha. Firozabad, known for its glass industry, has been a seat of political importance for the Samajwadi Party and the Yadav family.

He sought re-election from Firozabad in the 2019 general election. The contest in that election drew particular attention because of a parallel candidature linked to another branch of the Yadav family.
