Production

Aarya marked Sushmita Sen's return to acting after a long hiatus from screen work. Ram Madhvani, known for the feature film Neerja (2016), developed the project as an Indian adaptation of Penoza, a Dutch crime drama that originally aired on the Netherlands public broadcaster. The Indian adaptation transposes the story to Rajasthan, with significant portions filmed in and around Jaipur, lending the series a distinct visual identity drawn from the region's architecture and landscapes. The show is recognised for its long, continuous takes and naturalistic camera style, hallmarks of Madhvani's directorial approach.
