Yash Dhull was born and brought up in Delhi. He trained at the Bal Bhawan International School academy under coach Pradeep Sharma, who has also coached other Delhi cricketers. Dhull progressed through Delhi's age-group ranks, representing the city at the Under-16 and Under-19 levels before being selected for the India Under-19 setup.
Dhull captained the India Under-19 team at the 2022 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, played in the West Indies. During the tournament he scored a century in the semi-final against Australia, becoming one of the few Indian Under-19 captains to score a hundred at the World Cup. India defeated England in the final to lift the title for the fifth time.
Earlier, he was part of the India Under-19 squad that toured and played bilateral series in the lead-up to the World Cup, including matches in the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup in 2021, where India reached the final.
Dhull made his first-class debut for Delhi in the 2021–22 Ranji Trophy. He scored a century on debut against Tamil Nadu, marking himself out as a prospect in the senior domestic circuit. He has continued to feature for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Dhull was signed by the Delhi Capitals at the IPL 2022 mega auction. He has been part of the Delhi Capitals squad in subsequent seasons, primarily as a middle-order batting option.
Dhull is a top-order right-handed batsman known for an orthodox technique, a strong off-side game and the ability to construct long innings. Coaches and commentators have often compared his temperament and shot selection to that of senior Delhi batsmen who came through similar age-group structures.
As the captain of an Under-19 World Cup–winning side, Dhull joined a list of Indian players including Mohammad Kaif, Virat Kohli, Unmukt Chand, Prithvi Shaw and Priyam Garg who have led India at the tournament. The 2022 title was won under unusual circumstances, with several players including Dhull missing matches after testing positive for COVID-19 during the tournament before returning for the knockout stages.
