Tata Coffee traces its lineage to plantation companies operating in the Western Ghats, a region known for shade-grown Arabica and Robusta coffee. Over time, these plantation interests were consolidated under the Tata group, leading to the formation of Tata Coffee as a publicly listed company. The firm grew Arabica and Robusta varieties on estates located mainly in Coorg (Kodagu), Chikmagalur and Hassan districts of Karnataka, along with associated holdings producing pepper, cardamom and timber.
