Sunny Leone, born Karenjit "Karen" Kaur Vohra on 13 May 1981, is a Canadian American actress and model who established a career in Indian cinema following an earlier career as a pornographic performer in North America. She transitioned into mainstream Indian entertainment in the late 2000s and early 2010s, becoming a recognised face on Indian television and in Hindi films.

Background

Before entering Indian cinema, Leone built a career in the adult entertainment industry in North America. She was named Penthouse Pet of the Year in 2003 and worked as a contract performer for Vivid Entertainment. In 2010, Maxim listed her among the twelve top porn stars. She was inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame in 2018.

Early television work

Her first mainstream appearance came in 2005, when she worked as a red carpet reporter for the MTV Video Music Awards on MTV India. In 2011, she participated in the Indian reality television series Bigg Boss, an appearance widely credited with introducing her to Indian audiences. She has also hosted the reality show Splitsvilla.

Film career

Leone made her Bollywood debut in Pooja Bhatt's erotic thriller Jism 2 (2012), after which she shifted her focus to mainstream acting. Subsequent films include:
