The institution functions under the Department of Medical Education, Government of Madhya Pradesh.

SSMC offers the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) undergraduate programme, along with postgraduate degrees and diplomas across a range of clinical and pre-clinical specialities. These hospitals provide outpatient, inpatient, emergency and specialist services and act as referral centres for districts such as Rewa, Satna, Sidhi, Singrauli, Shahdol and parts of neighbouring Uttar Pradesh.

Significance

As the principal medical college of the Vindhya region, SSMC plays an important role in producing medical graduates and postgraduates, in delivering tertiary care to a largely rural and semi-urban catchment, and in supporting public health programmes administered by the state government. Its associated hospitals also function as training grounds for nursing and paramedical students.
