Functions

As a specialised affiliating university, MPMSU is responsible for:

  • Granting affiliation to medical, dental, nursing, physiotherapy, pharmacy, ayurvedic, homoeopathic, unani and other paramedical institutions across Madhya Pradesh.
  • Framing and revising syllabi for undergraduate and postgraduate courses in health sciences within the framework laid down by national regulators.
  • Conducting examinations and declaring results for affiliated colleges.
  • Awarding degrees, diplomas and certificates in the various branches of health sciences.
  • Promoting research in medicine and allied disciplines.

Affiliated institutions

The university's jurisdiction covers government and private health sciences colleges throughout Madhya Pradesh, including government medical colleges, dental colleges, nursing schools, ayurvedic and homoeopathic colleges, and a wide range of paramedical institutions.

Regulation

Academic programmes affiliated to MPMSU are governed in line with the standards laid down by the relevant central regulators, including the National Medical Commission, the Dental Council of India, the Indian Nursing Council, the Pharmacy Council of India, the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine and the National Commission for Homoeopathy.

Significance

MPMSU consolidates the regulation and academic administration of health sciences education in Madhya Pradesh under a single university, similar to dedicated health universities established in several other Indian states. This allows uniform examinations and credentialing for health professionals trained in the state.
