Background

Rampurhat lies in the northern part of Birbhum district, an area culturally associated with the Tarapith temple complex and with the literary heritage of Rabindranath Tagore's Santiniketan to the south. The college was established to extend access to undergraduate education to students from Rampurhat town and the surrounding rural blocks of Birbhum, many of whom would otherwise have had to travel to Suri, Bolpur or Bardhaman for higher studies.
