Negi developed his cricket through the Delhi domestic system, progressing through age-group competitions before establishing himself in the senior Ranji Trophy side. His left-arm spin combined with useful lower-order hitting marked him out as a Twenty20 specialist.
Negi has been a regular member of Delhi's first-class and limited-overs squads, featuring in the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. His all-round contributions in the shorter formats brought him wider attention on the franchise circuit.
Negi began his IPL career with Chennai Super Kings, where he was used primarily as a finisher and supporting spinner.
