Negi developed his cricket through the Delhi domestic system, progressing through age-group competitions before establishing himself in the senior Ranji Trophy side. His left-arm spin combined with useful lower-order hitting marked him out as a Twenty20 specialist.
Negi has been a regular member of Delhi's first-class and limited-overs squads, featuring in the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. His all-round contributions in the shorter formats brought him wider attention on the franchise circuit.
Negi began his IPL career with Chennai Super Kings, where he was used primarily as a finisher and supporting spinner. After spells with Delhi Daredevils, he was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore at the 2016 IPL auction for a notable sum, making him one of the higher-priced uncapped Indian players that year. He later represented Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals.
Negi was selected for the India Twenty20 International squad on the back of his domestic and IPL form. He featured in the limited-overs setup as a spin-bowling all-rounder, though his international appearances have been limited.
As a bowler, Negi relies on flight, control and subtle changes of pace, qualities suited to the middle overs of Twenty20 cricket. With the bat he is a hard-hitting left-hander, generally deployed in the lower middle order to accelerate the innings.
Negi is among the cohort of Delhi-based cricketers who emerged through the IPL era as Twenty20 specialists, illustrating the franchise league's role in providing a route to national selection for spin-bowling all-rounders.
