Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) is an Indian defence public sector undertaking engaged in the construction of warships, submarines and offshore platforms. Headquartered in Mazagaon, Mumbai, the company functions under the administrative control of the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, and is one of the country's principal shipyards for naval vessels.

The shipyard traces its origins to a small dry dock established in the mid-19th century at Mazagaon on the eastern shoreline of Mumbai harbour. Over time, the facility expanded into a full-fledged shipbuilding and ship repair operation. It was incorporated as a private limited company and was subsequently taken over by the Government of India in 1960, becoming a wholly owned government undertaking. The company was later renamed Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited from its earlier name, Mazagon Dock Limited.
MDL's principal yard is located at Mazagaon in Mumbai, with additional facilities at Nhava in the Raigad district of Maharashtra. The yard has dry docks, wet basins, and modular construction halls suited for the simultaneous build of large surface combatants and conventional submarines. It is one of the few Indian yards with the capability to construct submarines.
MDL has been the lead builder for several Indian Navy classes, including the Godavari-class and Brahmaputra-class frigates, the Delhi-class destroyers, the Shivalik-class stealth frigates of Project 17, the Kolkata-class destroyers of Project 15A, the Visakhapatnam-class destroyers of Project 15B, and the Nilgiri-class frigates of Project 17A.
The yard built the SSK Shishumar-class submarines in collaboration with HDW of Germany during the 1980s and 1990s. Under Project 75, MDL has been constructing Kalvari-class submarines based on the Scorpène design, in partnership with Naval Group (formerly DCNS) of France.
MDL is regarded as a strategic asset for India's naval modernisation and indigenous defence manufacturing under the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. It is among the largest defence shipyards in the country and plays a central role in the Indian Navy's surface combatant and submarine acquisition plans.
