Hanamkonda (also spelt Hanumakonda) is a city in the state of Telangana, India. It serves as the headquarters of Hanumakonda district and forms part of the tri-city urban agglomeration with Warangal and Kazipet. Historically associated with the Kakatiya dynasty, the city is known for its medieval temples, educational institutions, and its role as a commercial and administrative hub in north Telangana.

Hanamkonda was an early capital of the Kakatiya dynasty before the seat of power was shifted to nearby Warangal (Orugallu). The city retains several monuments from this period, the most prominent being the Thousand Pillar Temple (Rudreshwara Swamy Temple), built in the 12th century during the reign of Rudradeva. The temple, dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu and Surya, is noted for its star-shaped platform, intricately carved pillars, and a monolithic Nandi.
The hill of Hanamkonda, from which the city derives its name, is associated with local traditions linking the site to Hanuman. The area later came under the Bahmani Sultanate, the Qutb Shahis of Golconda, the Mughals, and subsequently the Nizams of Hyderabad before becoming part of independent India.
Hanamkonda lies on the Deccan Plateau in north-central Telangana. It is contiguous with Warangal city to the southeast and Kazipet to the west, the three together forming a continuous urban region. The Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation administers the urban area. Hanumakonda district was carved out as a separate district during the reorganisation of districts in Telangana.
The city is connected by road through National Highway 163 and state highways radiating towards Hyderabad, Karimnagar and Khammam. Kazipet Junction, one of the major railway junctions in south India on the New Delhi–Chennai trunk route, lies within the urban agglomeration and serves Hanamkonda. Warangal railway station provides additional rail connectivity.
Hanamkonda is an important educational centre in Telangana. Key institutions in the city and the wider tri-city area include Kakatiya University, Kakatiya Medical College, the National Institute of Technology, Warangal (located in Kazipet), and a number of engineering, arts and professional colleges.
As an early Kakatiya capital and a present-day district headquarters, Hanamkonda combines historical importance with its contemporary role as an administrative, educational and commercial centre for the north Telangana region. Its temples form a part of the Kakatiya architectural heritage that has drawn scholarly and tourist interest.
