The Central University of Rajasthan (CURAJ) is a public central university located at Bandarsindri in Kishangarh tehsil of Ajmer district, Rajasthan, India. The university was set up as part of a national initiative to establish new central universities in states that did not previously host one. The Central Universities Act, 2009, passed by the Parliament of India, provided the legal basis for CURAJ along with several sister institutions in other states. The university is funded by the Government of India through the University Grants Commission.
The permanent campus is at Bandarsindri, situated along the Ajmer–Jaipur stretch of National Highway 48, between the cities of Ajmer and Kishangarh. The location places the campus within reasonable distance of both Jaipur, the state capital, and Ajmer, a historic city in central Rajasthan.
CURAJ offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes organised through schools and departments covering the sciences, social sciences, humanities, languages, commerce and management, mathematical and statistical sciences, and engineering and technology. The university follows a semester-based credit system in line with UGC norms and admits students through national-level entrance examinations.
As the central university designated for Rajasthan under the 2009 legislation, CURAJ supplements the role played by older state universities such as the University of Rajasthan in Jaipur and the Mohanlal Sukhadia University in Udaipur. It contributes to research and higher education access in a region historically served largely by state and private institutions.
