The University of Rajasthan is a state public university located in Jaipur, the capital of the Indian state of Rajasthan. Commonly referred to as Rajasthan University or RU, it is one of the oldest universities in the state and serves as an affiliating, teaching, and research institution offering programmes across the arts, sciences, commerce, law, management, and engineering.

Background
The University of Rajasthan was established in the years following Indian independence to serve as the principal centre of higher education in the newly formed state of Rajasthan. It was originally known as the University of Rajputana before being renamed.
