Bigg Boss Bangla is the Bengali-language version of the Indian reality television franchise Bigg Boss, itself adapted from the Dutch format Big Brother created by John de Mol. In the show, a group of contestants known as "housemates" live together in a custom-built house cut off from the outside world, with their activities recorded continuously by cameras. Housemates are progressively eliminated through a combination of nominations and audience voting until a winner is declared.

The Bigg Boss franchise began in India in 2006 with the Hindi-language edition. Owing to its popularity, the format was extended into several Indian languages, including Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Malayalam and Bengali. The Bengali adaptation, branded Bigg Boss Bangla, was produced for audiences in West Bengal and other Bengali-speaking regions.
The structure of Bigg Boss Bangla follows the established conventions of the wider franchise:
A celebrity host anchors the weekly highlight and eviction episodes, interacting with housemates and the audience.
Like other regional editions of the franchise, Bigg Boss Bangla features a mix of celebrity participants, including actors and personalities drawn from the Bengali film and television industries. Episodes are typically broadcast in a daily and weekend format, with weekend episodes focusing on host interactions, eliminations and special tasks.
Bigg Boss Bangla represents the localisation of a globally recognised reality format for a specific Indian linguistic audience. Its run reflected broader trends in Indian general entertainment television, where regional-language editions of national franchises have become a major content category. The show also contributed to the visibility of Bengali television personalities by placing them in an extended, unscripted format.
