Barot came through the age-group system in Saurashtra, a cricketing region in Gujarat that has produced several India internationals such as Cheteshwar Pujara and Ravindra Jadeja. He earned his place in the senior Saurashtra side after performing in junior and zonal cricket, and went on to feature in first-class, List A and Twenty20 fixtures for the state.
Barot's domestic career was based around Saurashtra's campaigns in the Ranji Trophy (first-class), the Vijay Hazare Trophy (List A) and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (Twenty20).
