The station predominantly handles suburban passenger services and select stopping passenger trains, while most long-distance express trains transit without halting.

Location and access

The station serves Atgaon village and the neighbouring rural settlements of Shahapur taluka. It provides rail connectivity to commuters travelling towards Kalyan, Thane and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in the south-west, and towards Kasara, the terminal station of the Central Line suburban services, in the north-east. Road connectivity to the station is by way of routes branching off the Mumbai–Nashik corridor (NH 160 / Old Agra Road).

Services

Atgaon is a regular halt for Kasara-bound and CSMT-bound suburban EMU local trains. The Central Line section between Kalyan and Kasara, on which Atgaon is located, includes the steep ghat section beyond Kasara, and trains terminating or originating at Kasara provide the main suburban link for the station's catchment.

Significance

As one of the upcountry suburban halts on the Central Line, Atgaon plays a role in integrating the rural and semi-urban population of Shahapur taluka with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The station enables daily commuting for workers, students and traders to the urban centres of Thane and Mumbai.
