Asarva is one of several railway stations serving the city of Ahmedabad, alongside the principal terminus at Ahmedabad Junction (Kalupur). While Ahmedabad Junction handles the bulk of broad gauge long-distance traffic, Asarva has functioned as the originating point for services on lines that were historically built to metre gauge, connecting Ahmedabad with towns to the north and north-east.
