Ankleshwar is an industrial town situated on the southern bank of the Narmada river, well known for its concentration of chemical, pharmaceutical and engineering units established within the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) estate. The Udyognagar station was developed to provide rail access to this industrial belt, supplementing the main Ankleshwar Junction railway station which lies on the busy Mumbai–Ahmedabad main line.
The station lies in the eastern part of Ankleshwar, in the vicinity of the GIDC industrial estate. It primarily caters to local commuter and industrial traffic, while long-distance services for the area continue to be handled by Ankleshwar Junction. Road connectivity is provided through the local network linking to National Highway 48 (the Mumbai–Delhi corridor) and State Highways serving Bharuch and surrounding regions.
The station's principal importance lies in its proximity to one of Gujarat's largest industrial clusters. It facilitates the movement of workers and visitors associated with the chemical and manufacturing units of Ankleshwar GIDC, contributing to the local commuter network in the Bharuch–Ankleshwar belt.
