Background
Ankleshwar is an industrial town along the southern bank of the Narmada region in Gujarat, known for one of the largest industrial estates in Asia and for early petroleum extraction in independent India. The railway station serves the town's residents, the surrounding industrial belt, and passengers travelling along the Western Railway corridor between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
The station carries the "Junction" suffix because of the branch line that diverges here towards Rajpipla, in addition to the trunk route. This makes it a connection point between the broad-gauge main line and the lighter-traffic branch serving the eastern hinterland of Bharuch district.

Ankleshwar Junction is significant for the heavy industrial traffic it supports. The Ankleshwar Industrial Estate, hosting chemical, pharmaceutical, dyes and petrochemical units, depends on the rail link for movement of workforce and, historically, freight.
