Anju Kurian comes from a Malayali Christian family with roots in Kerala. She pursued her education before entering modelling and the film industry, which led to her early opportunities in South Indian cinema.
Kurian made her acting debut in Malayalam cinema and quickly moved into lead and significant supporting roles. She gained wider recognition through her appearance in Njandukalude Nattil Oridavela (2017), directed by Althaf Salim and produced under Anwar Rasheed Entertainment, in which she appeared alongside Nivin Pauly.
Following this, she took up roles in films across multiple South Indian languages, working with directors and actors in the Tamil and Kannada industries in addition to continuing her work in Malayalam productions.
As part of a generation of actresses who entered Malayalam cinema in the second half of the 2010s, Kurian has been associated with younger, urban-themed films that emphasise realistic performances and ensemble storytelling, a trend that has shaped recent Malayalam-language cinema.
