Nivin Pauly was born on 11 October 1984 in Aluva, in the Ernakulam district of Kerala, into a Malayali Christian family. He completed his schooling in Aluva and pursued an engineering degree in computer science from the College of Engineering, Karunagappally. Before entering films, he worked briefly in the information technology sector with Infosys at Bengaluru.

Debut and Early Films
Nivin Pauly made his acting debut in 2010 with Malarvaadi Arts Club, the directorial debut of Vineeth Sreenivasan, produced under the banner of actor Dileep. The film featured a group of newcomers and became a moderate success, introducing Nivin to Malayalam audiences.
Breakthrough
His breakthrough came with Thattathin Marayathu (2012), again directed by Vineeth Sreenivasan, in which he played a young man in love with a Muslim girl.
