Angamaly railway station is situated on the main railway corridor connecting Thiruvananthapuram and Mangaluru via Ernakulam, and serves as an important stop for passengers travelling between Kochi and the northern parts of Kerala. The station is located in the town of Angamaly, which is known for its proximity to Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery and for being a major commercial centre in central Kerala.
The station is located within Angamaly municipal area, off the Main Central Road and close to NH 544 (the Salem–Kochi National Highway). It is one of the nearest rail-heads to Cochin International Airport. Angamaly is also a halt on the corridor proposed for the Sabari Rail Line, an under-development project intended to extend rail connectivity from Angamaly towards Erumeli and onward to Sabarimala.
The station handles a mix of passenger, MEMU, and express train services. Several long-distance trains running between Kerala and other Indian states halt at Angamaly, while regional and intercity passenger trains link the station with Ernakulam, Thrissur, Shoranur, and beyond.
As the closest major railway station to Cochin International Airport and to the pilgrim and tourist circuits of central Kerala, Angamaly station serves a substantial commuter and traveller base. Its role is expected to grow further if the Sabari Rail Line, which formally branches from Angamaly, is completed.
