The Kochi Metro is operated by Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL), a joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Kerala. The system was developed with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) as the implementing agency for construction. Aluva was identified as the northern terminus of the first phase of the project because of its role as a gateway to Kochi from the north and its proximity to the Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery.
The station is situated near Aluva, close to the Aluva railway station of Indian Railways and the inter-state and KSRTC bus stand, making it an important multi-modal interchange. Passengers travelling from northern Kerala by rail or road frequently use Aluva as the entry point to the metro network for onward travel into the city.
As the northern terminus, Aluva metro station handles a substantial share of the Kochi Metro's commuter traffic, particularly office-goers, students, and travellers transferring from Indian Railways services and long-distance buses. Its integration with existing transport infrastructure has made it a key node in Kochi's urban mobility plan.
