Allu Arjun

Allu Arjun is an Indian actor who works predominantly in Telugu cinema. Known for his dancing ability, screen presence, and stylised performances, he is among the most prominent leading actors of his generation in South Indian cinema. He gained pan-Indian recognition with the Pushpa film series directed by Sukumar.

Background and family

Allu Arjun was born into a family with deep roots in Telugu cinema. His father, Allu Aravind, is a noted film producer associated with Geetha Arts. His paternal grandfather, Allu Ramalingaiah, was a veteran character actor in Telugu films. Through his aunt Surekha Konidela, he is related to the Konidela family; actor Chiranjeevi is his uncle by marriage, making actors Ram Charan, Varun Tej, Sai Dharam Tej, and Niharika Konidela his cousins. He has two brothers, Allu Venkatesh and Allu Sirish, the latter also an actor.

He spent his early years in Chennai before the family moved to Hyderabad. He completed his schooling in Chennai and studied at MSR College in Hyderabad.

Career

Early appearances

Allu Arjun appeared as a child in Vijetha (1985) and had a brief appearance in Daddy (2001), directed by Suresh Krishna and starring his uncle Chiranjeevi.

Lead debut and rise

He made his debut as a leading actor in Gangotri (2003), directed by K. Raghavendra Rao and produced by C. Aswani Dutt. His second film, Arya (2004), directed by Sukumar, became a major commercial success and established him as a youth icon. He followed it with Bunny (2005) and Happy (2006).

Establishment as a star

The action drama Desamuduru (2007), directed by Puri Jagannadh, was a significant hit. Parugu (2008), directed by Bhaskar, won the Nandi Award for Best Feature Film. Arya 2 (2009), again with Sukumar, reinforced his standing. Vedam (2010), directed by Krish, brought him critical acclaim for an ensemble performance.

2010s

Films during this period included Varudu (2010), Badrinath (2011), Julayi (2012, directed by Trivikram Srinivas), Iddarammayilatho (2013), Race Gurram (2014), S/O Satyamurthy (2015), Rudhramadevi (2015, in which he played Gona Ganna Reddy), Sarrainodu (2016), Duvvada Jagannadham (2017), Naa Peru Surya, Naa Illu India (2018), and Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo (2020), directed by Trivikram Srinivas, which became one of the highest-grossing Telugu films at the time.

Pushpa series and pan-Indian recognition

Pushpa: The Rise (2021), directed by Sukumar, in which he played the red-sandalwood smuggler Pushpa Raj, became a major commercial success across India and was dubbed into multiple languages. For his performance he received the National Film Award for Best Actor, becoming the first Telugu actor to win in that category. The sequel Pushpa 2: The Rule (2024) further extended the franchise's reach.

Personal life

He married Sneha Reddy in March 2011. The couple have two children, a son, Allu Ayaan, and a daughter, Allu Arha. Allu Arha made her acting debut as a child artist in Shaakuntalam (2023).
