The Nagpur Metro is a rapid transit system serving Nagpur, planned and operated by the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro), a joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Maharashtra. The network was conceived to ease road traffic congestion in central Nagpur and to provide a modern public transport backbone for the city, with two principal corridors meeting at Munje Square (Sitabuldi).
The station is situated along the north–south corridor of the metro, which runs through central Nagpur. Like most stations on the network, it is built as an elevated structure above the road, with concourse and platform levels accessed by staircases, escalators and lifts from street-level entrances.
Ajni Square is a busy junction in Nagpur, lying close to the Ajni area and within reach of the Ajni railway station, an important suburb of Nagpur Junction on the Indian Railways network. The metro station thus plays a role in last-mile connectivity for commuters travelling between the southern parts of the city and the central business district around Sitabuldi.
