Agatha K. Sangma is an Indian politician from the state of Meghalaya. A member of the National People's Party (NPP), she has served as a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha representing the Tura constituency. She is widely known for her tenure as one of the youngest Union Ministers of State in independent India, having held charge of the Ministry of Rural Development in the second United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.

Agatha Sangma belongs to the politically prominent Sangma family of the Garo Hills in western Meghalaya. She is the daughter of Purno Agitok Sangma, a former Speaker of the Lok Sabha and Chief Minister of Meghalaya, and a co-founder of the Nationalist Congress Party. Her brother Conrad Sangma is the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, while another brother, James Sangma, has served as a state minister.
She is trained in law, having studied in India and the United Kingdom, and worked briefly in the legal profession before entering electoral politics.
Agatha Sangma entered the Lok Sabha through a by-election from the Tura constituency in Meghalaya, a seat long associated with her father. She contested on a Nationalist Congress Party ticket, the party her father had co-founded.
Following the 2009 general election, in which she retained the Tura seat, she was inducted into the Council of Ministers headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. She was sworn in as Minister of State for Rural Development, becoming one of the youngest persons to hold ministerial office in the Union Government. During her tenure she was associated with rural development programmes including the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and rural housing initiatives.
After her father P. A. Sangma floated the National People's Party, Agatha Sangma aligned with the new outfit. The NPP later grew into a significant regional force in the North-East and was eventually recognised as a national party by the Election Commission of India. She has continued to represent the Tura Lok Sabha constituency on an NPP ticket, and the seat has remained a stronghold of the Sangma family.
Agatha Sangma is regarded as a prominent voice from the North-East in national politics, particularly on issues affecting tribal communities, rural development, and the Garo Hills region. Her early elevation to the Union Council of Ministers gave Meghalaya direct representation at the centre, and she has been one of the public faces of the National People's Party since its emergence as a regional power in the North-East.
