Overview
Conrad Kongkal Sangma (born 27 January 1978) is an Indian politician serving as the Chief Minister of Meghalaya since 2018. He is the national president of the National People's Party. He is the son of P. A. Sangma, a former Chief Minister of Meghalaya and former Speaker of the Lok Sabha.
Sangma began his legislative career representing the Selsella constituency in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly from 2008 to 2013. During this period, he served as Minister of Finance, Power and Tourism in the Government of Meghalaya from 2008 to 2009. He subsequently served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
At the national level, Sangma was a Member of Parliament from the Tura constituency between 2016 and 2018. He resigned from the Lok Sabha after assuming the office of Chief Minister of Meghalaya in 2018. Since 2018, he has represented the South Tura constituency in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. Earlier in his political career, he also served as the National President of the Nationalist Youth Congress.
