The Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) is an Indian institution of higher learning that focuses on advanced research and education in science, engineering and allied disciplines. It functions as the academic arm of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) network, awarding postgraduate and doctoral degrees through coursework and research carried out at CSIR laboratories and partner institutions across India.

AcSIR was established by an Act of the Parliament of India to channel the research strengths of the CSIR network into structured academic programmes. CSIR operates a country-wide chain of national laboratories spanning fields such as chemistry, biology, materials, drug discovery, energy, environment, mining, leather and instrumentation. AcSIR draws on the scientists and infrastructure of these laboratories to offer doctoral (Ph.D.) and master's level programmes.
Unlike a conventional residential university, AcSIR functions as a distributed academy: students are typically enrolled centrally but pursue coursework and research at one of the participating CSIR institutes. The faculty largely consists of CSIR scientists who are recognised as guides and instructors of the academy.
AcSIR offers programmes in two broad streams:
The flagship offering is the Ph.D. programme, taken up by candidates who join CSIR laboratories as research scholars. Integrated and master's-level programmes in selected disciplines are run jointly with specific CSIR institutes.
Research and teaching for AcSIR programmes are conducted at the CSIR network of laboratories, which includes well-known institutes such as:
Together these laboratories provide AcSIR students access to specialised equipment, multi-disciplinary teams and ongoing research projects, often linked to industrial and societal problems.
AcSIR is governed by a Board of Governors and is headed by a President, with day-to-day academic administration overseen by senior office-bearers such as a Director and Deans for the science and engineering streams. The headquarters of the academy is located in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, while academic activity is dispersed across the participating institutes.
AcSIR is significant in the Indian higher-education landscape for several reasons:
