Abhijeet Sawant is an Indian playback singer best known as the winner of the first season of Indian Idol, the singing reality competition broadcast by Sony Entertainment Television. His victory in 2005 made him one of the earliest faces of the Indian televised talent-show era and launched a career in playback singing, live performance, and independent music.

Sawant was born and raised in Mumbai in a Marathi-speaking family. He developed an interest in music from an early age and performed at college and small-stage events before auditioning for Indian Idol. Prior to gaining national recognition, he worked in the city's competitive amateur singing circuit.
Indian Idol, the Indian adaptation of the international Idols franchise, premiered on Sony Entertainment Television in 2004. The judging panel for the first season included composer Anu Malik, singer Sonu Nigam, and music director Farah Khan. Sawant emerged as the winner of the season finale held in March 2005, defeating runner-up Amit Sana. The contest drew large viewership and made the winners and finalists household names across India.
Following his win, Sawant signed a recording contract and released his debut album, Aapka Abhijeet Sawant, produced under Sony BMG. The album's title track and accompanying singles received notable airplay on Indian radio and music television.
