Overview
William Carey University (also known as Carey, William Carey, or WCU) is a private Christian university located in Mississippi, United States. The institution is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention and the Mississippi Baptist Convention. Its main campus is situated in Hattiesburg, with a second campus in the Tradition community north of Biloxi.
The institution gained official university status in 2006. It offers a range of academic programmes, including baccalaureate, Master's, and doctoral degrees across multiple disciplines.
William Carey University opened its College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2009 and welcomed its first class of 110 students in 2010, expanding the university's offerings into the field of medical education.
Prior to the fall of 2025, the academic year at William Carey University was structured around three trimesters of ten weeks each, supplemented by two summer sessions, a January Term, and a May Term. From the fall of 2025 onwards, the university transitioned to a semester system, comprising a fall and a spring semester of sixteen weeks each, along with a summer session.
